Lin Zhipeng, who works under the alias 223, is akey figure in the generation of Chinese artists tohave emerged onto the international stage sincethe turn of the millennium. His work, often madein collaboration with friends and shared on so-cial media, speaks of the desires and freedomssought by his generation. 223 balances prepara-tion and improvisation in his work, often bring-ing his signature textiles, fabrics and carefullychosen objects into the environments in whichhe works. For his exhibition at The Walther Col-lection, 223 proposed images which speak bothof physical presence and the domestic realm. Inboth works containing bodies and in his morerecent still life practice, 223 reveals his sensitiv-ity to the beauty and expressive potential of theeveryday, transformed through his unique vision.
Sight, sound, objects, they all swing like velvet. They are a concoction of vulnerability, sensitivity, flirtatiousness, ambiguous desire and untamableskins. Everyone is focused on their own affect, while navigating in a secretly connected net-work.
